A modem is the device that connects your home to the Internet.  It converts the signals between your Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) network and your home network.

A router distributes the Internet connection from your modem to the devices in your home via an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. It also provides security features like firewalls and parental controls.
